  • ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Martin Family Farms recognizes its responsibility to conserve natural resources for future generations.

Today, it embodies that commitment by implementing the four pillars of environmental sustainability: carbon footprint, water footprint, air footprint, and land footprint. This includes strategies to reduce odor, protect water resources, and enrich the land. Martin Family Farms is focused on delivering responsible and progressive environmental management on the farm, and its inclusion in the We Care Initiative reinforces that focus.

Check out the footage below of the MFF leadership team explaining their commitment to environmental sustainability, and read more about our efforts to practice sustainable land use through manure management.

FOUR PILLARS OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

CARBON FOOTPRINT

Over the past 50 years, U.S. pork production has reduced its carbon emissions by 8 percent. This progress is the result of more efficient animal care methods, advanced technologies, and streamlined processes that help lower overall environmental impact. At Martin Family Farms, we also make better use of nutrients from our farms, such as using manure as a natural fertilizer to grow crops, creating a more sustainable, closed-loop system.

WATER FOOTPRINT

In the past 50 years, U.S. pork production has significantly reduced water use. Through better technology, improved conservation practices, and more efficient systems, farms are able to use water more responsibly—reducing waste while supporting both animal care and crop production.

AIR FOOTPRINT

Over the past 50 years, U.S. pork production has reduced energy use by 7%, thanks to advancements in technology and more streamlined processes. Air emissions have also declined over time through improved management practices and continued innovation in how farms operate day to day.

LAND FOOTPRINT

In the past 50 years, U.S. pork production has significantly reduced water use. Through better technology, improved conservation practices, and more efficient systems, farms are able to use water more responsibly, reducing waste while supporting both animal care and crop production.
